Book: Deep Harbor

Deep Harbor (Northern Lights)

I had the privilege of reviewing Lisa Tawn Bergren's book Deep Harbor (Northern Lights).  This is the second of three books in the Northern Lights Series.  You may recognize the author's name from her popular children's books - God Gave Us...

It always amazes me how God continually provides me with words that hit the heart.  Words that I know will help me continue to heal from the Interrupted Expectations in my life.

Read a quote from the book about grief:
Day after day, you put one foot in front of the other, and pray that God will make a path for you...No doubt you are feeling terribly lost.  That too will wane.  Gradually, life begins to fell all right again, even without your spouse.  It's like losing a limb.  You just have to get around without it...Sometimes you remember, and you ache for that limb.  But in the day-to-day living, God teaches us how to do it in a new way.
Wow...can you relate?

I really enjoyed this christian novel focusing on the relationship of three women and the struggles that they face through death, disappointments, and emptiness.  You will be drawn into their lives as you also reflect on your relationship with others and God along with the Interrupted Expectations in your life.  Unlike a self-help book about grief, loneliness, and life's yuck, novels can bring healing in a way other books can not.

Even without reading the first book of the series, The Captain's Bride (Northern Lights), I was able to jump right in.  An easy read with great conversation and a descriptive tone, this is a great novel that you will be glad you read.  And like me, you will be excited to read the next book in the series Midnight Sun

These books were provided for review by Waterbrook Press.
