Relationships with In-Laws

They are great while you are dating.  You love them while you are engaged.  They turn into monsters after you get married.  The Interrupted Expectation of your In-Laws -  Mother, Father, Brother, Sister, Nieces and Nephews - in-law.

Okay, not every one's situation is this way (PTL) but so many of the girls that I talk to feel this way.  They dread holidays and family visits.  It becomes a fight every November to figure out how to work out the different family schedules.

Whether you have a good or bad situation.  Whether you are the out-law or the in-law, the situation can always improve.

Once again, Focus on the Family has complied a list of articles to help the In-Law Relationship.

Here is a list of the articles:

The Only Light to Reach For

A dear friend sent me this devotion today.  After having a rough few days, she knew I would find encouragement.  She was correct.

Here is an excerpt but definitely go back and read the whole article.

Proverbs 31 Ministries:  When Worship Makes No Sense
Tears washed down my cheeks. I wasn't praising God because of my darkness, but because He was the only Light I knew to reach for. "God, I don't know what the future holds. I don't know how we are going to make it. But I know You."
Darkness holds no power when I hold on to the Light. How can I help but worship Him when I discover that immense truth?

No Fear

Psalm 112:7-8 (New International Version)

7 He will have no fear of bad news;
his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear;
in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.

There is No Fear in God.

Bible Verses: Philippians 1:11 & Galatians 6:2

Philippians 1:11

May you always be doing those good, kind things which show that you are a child of God, for this will bring much praise and glory to the Lord.

Galatians 6:2
Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Are you helping those who are hurting?

Memorial Jewelry

A year and a half ago, I have the privilege of co-leading a grief support class at my church called "Interrupted Expectations" (thus the name for this blog).  I had the privilege of getting to know a mother and a daughter who had recently lost a daughter/sister.  Read this poem that the sister posted on Facebook.

Since Heaven has become your home
I sometimes feel I'm so alone
And though we now are far apart
You hold a big piece of my heart.

I never knew how much I'd grieve
when it was time for you to leave
or just how much my heart would ache
from that one fragment you would take.

God let's this tender hole remain
reminding me we'll meet again
and one day all the pain will cease
when He restores this missing piece.

Here is the rest of the poem...

He'll turn to joy my every tear

and when I wear this necklace near
it will become my simple way
to treasure our Reunion Day.

This poem originally was written for a necklace by Reunion Heart.  There are several necklaces and rings to give as a memorial gift or to purchase for yourself.  Here are a few that I found:

Memorial Tear Necklace - my mom received one of these and wears is every day

Heart Locket
Memorial Ring
Sterling Silver Memorial Sentiment Ring - engraved "until we meet again" on the inside

2 Corinthians 4: 6-7

2 Corinthians 4: 6-7
6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
I don't need more because I have a Treasure in my heart - the Lord God Almighty.
